Going on vacation

It'll be another week or so before I upload new work - I'll be drawing and painting for about a week while I've got some time off work. I'm also working feverishly on a new website design for www.washburndesigns.com All of my work will be categorized for easier viewing. Check back soon!

This frame holds a bulletin board covered with dark brown fabric. I am putting art-in-rotation in it for the kitchen. I did a lot of work in that room today and got paint on the old rug, so the rug must now be painted. Look for it soon!

Just a pastel pencil sketch. Experimenting with grays, yellows, and this violet-fuchsia color.

Sketch to make a bench out of an old headboard. The bench would contain storage areas and have two upholstered cushions. The whole thing could be made from recycled furniture.

This is one of the apple trees (near its end) in the back yard. I like how it splits about 3 feet up into 4 main branches. Only two have new growth this year. I am working on cutting it back slowly.

I've been spending more time drawing outside lately, and this fly landed on the blank page. Need I say more?

Since this was just a quick sketch while my subject was available, here are some additional notes: body is translucent green, eyes are black with red circles in them (very interesting), wings folded flat along the back, and feet are black fading into green legs. Approx 5/8" long. Unidentified as of yet, but similar to a Dance Fly.

Another dream... with a bright red finch flying over trees at night.

This is also very similar to a painting I saw somewhere. It has been one of those images that just sticks in your head.

Quick sketch of flowers in my garden. These particular flowers are very bright yellow and steal the attention from the violet-colored flowers. They also close up at night.

Orchard web weaver spider - a common spider in my gardens, usually seen on its web in the morning.
The true colors are neon yellow/green.
The head is the lower portion. This is drawn hanging from the web upside-down.

Necklace made from silver chain and clasps, old buttons, beads, a silver ring, and a rock. The two buttons are glass.

New business card. Vector graphic created from a cicada wing. The original colors were oranges, but for the summer I'll stick with the blues and greens.
Thanks to Minuteman Press on W Broad in Columbus for the awesome printing job!

A simple card for the grad gift. Turns out my color choices were pretty close to the high school's - what luck!

This shoulder bag is similar to the green one I made a few weeks ago. It is made from 2 placemats, a strap, and 2 zippers. This one is a gift for a friend.

Oil painting, 14x11"
This started with the green stripe, then blue below it, then orange variations, working down and back up until the orange top portion was complete. I wanted to keep the focus at the top, but allow the eye to move down. There is a wide variety of blue values in the dark areas, better seen in person of course.
